Most of us feel like our minds are being pulled in many different directions right now. I'm definitely in that category.
I'll keep this one really short and just offer up a few quick things I found of interest this week.
1. 2022 Social Media Engagement Report
Instagram has gotten so much more challenging to navigate, but it's still a huge marketing play (75% of brands want to increase presence on the platform in 2022 versus 53% on YouTube and 10% on Twitter). Two major marketing tech forces, HubSpot and Mention, put out an awesome new report analyzing over 1M users to find the biggest trends. Check out the findings here.

2. Studies Show: Better Customer Experience, Better Marketing Results
That background music while you're waiting on hold for a customer service representative call serves a scientific purpose. AT&T found that customers hang up when on hold via telephone after 90 seconds, unless there’s music playing in the background. The music led to the perception that a 30-second wait was only 15 seconds. Here's an article on how brands strategically craft customer experience to improve results.
3. People don't change their minds
If you're like so many other avid readers of business and marketing books, you're probably a fan of Thinking, Fast and Slow by Nobel Prize recipient Daniel Kahneman. He presents the claim that people don't change their minds when you present them with new reasoning. That's mainly because they never really cared about the reasons; they were attached to the conclusion itself. Read it for yourself (and find out which chapter of his book has been disproven).
4. Crisis in the Digital Era
I found this article breaking down the varied online responses we're seeing to the war in Ukraine to be interesting. From live-tweets allowing us to follow what's unfolding to misinformation campaigns to "influencers" looking to capitalize with engagement plays. Read more here. Also Ahrefs has shared a link to where you can find organizations to donate to here; there are some tips on how to spot charity scams in this other article, too.
And Lastly, Check Out These Job Opportunities:
Senior Manager, Brand Social Lead (CBS Entertainment)
Director of Social (The Infatuation)
(Don't forget to mention that you saw the opportunity in this newsletter!)
Thanks again for sticking with me another week!
Sending you wishes for peace of mind and good health.
